"Orangutan Airmen" was coined one night in a bar-restaurant in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Two of my flying buddies and I had flown in the night before for a Civil Air Patrol flight clinic. Over dinner and a few beers I told them about my field expedition to Borneo, Indonesia with a group of Earthwatch volunteers. There I had spent three weeks in the rain forest following orangutans for a scientific purpose. After dinner one of my buddies said we should call our flight crew the "Orangutan Airmen".
I adopted Orangutan Airman as a nom de plume because it somewhat embodies two of my hobbies, adventure and piloting small airplanes.
My name is Ron Coleman, aerospace engineer and hobbyist. My interest has always been to photograph my travels and hobbies. I enjoy the many technical aspects of photography, both software and hardware. I like to shoot images and post process with the array of digital enhancement software tools currently available. I would categorize myself as a digital artist as opposed to a traditional photographer.
I am a member of the Photographic Society of America, the Florida Photographers Group, the Photographic Club of Flagler County and The Villages Photo Club.
